Wednesday, January 13th, 2010James Kelly: Raw — from Loaded
Thursday, December 31st, 2009Here’s a very cool downhill video from the Loaded Boards youtube account, of James Kelly. Minimal editing, which I’ve come to really prefer, and a good song by Radiohead. I wonder how long before the song gets pulled?! What an awesome one-way road. At some points James is fully outrunning the motorcycle that is following him!
Downhill west of DFW

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009Damn, Sector 9 just keeps on posting rad downhill stuff on their youtube channel. Check it…
Downhill Stylishness
Thursday, December 10th, 2009This is the best filmed downhill I’ve seen in a while. Hats off to Sector 9 or whoever filmed it. This kid has really great downhill style. A lot of times you see young downhillers all squatted-down like a constipated chimp. Not this kid. He has a fluid, gumby, killer style. I also like the original music for this video. It all just works together really well.
A Texas boy in Oklahoma
Tuesday, December 8th, 2009Video find of the week
Monday, December 7th, 2009OK, it is only Monday, but I think this will be the best video of the week. Sadly, this is not in my state of Texas. This is another great vid from Loaded Boards. These guys really know how to market their wheel line. Send 3 great, stylish riders out to a rad hill, have a great filmer go with them, and do a sweet little free video on Youtube. Longboard downhill at its best.
And check this hill! Dude, this thing has cliffs! A little too much drift and you’ll look like this.
A Quick Session Report
Saturday, December 5th, 2009Went and skated the usual hill today with my friend Sean. Sean just got a Gravity Kalai complete, from Milehigh Skates. Randal-II 180s and 76mm Earthwing Obomber wheels. Really nice setup. Milehigh did all his usual mods to the trucks. I used my Comet FSM.
Sean got the “normal” flex version of the Kalai. While the Kalai may look like a Loaded Dervish at first glance, it is nothing like it in reality. I have a Dervish – the “hard flex” version. The normal flex Kalai is way stiffer than the hard flex Dervish. The ride is just completely different. Both are great boards, but if you are shopping, don’t make the mistake of thinking that one could be substituted for the other.
Anyway, we were fighting the wind just a bit today, but at the bottom of the hill we added a nice 90 degree left into a steeper drop about 50 yards long, into a 90 degree right turn into a good run-out. Hadn’t done this before due to traffic, but today Sean spotted for me, and I wore some slide gloves in case I needed to make an emergency stop. Should be really fun in the future, especially on days with a nice tail wind.
